Why do we focus on caregivers?

Why do we focus on caregivers? It’s a question we hear often, and it’s one we love to answer! Here are our top 3 reasons:

1.The Caregivers Voice Matters

To qualify for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), caregivers must be able to clearly define:

  • The Veteran’s needs for assistance
  • The help they provide to the Veteran
  • Why the Veteran can no longer perform the physical or mental task alone

2. Advocating for Caregiver Options

We want to ensure that caregivers are receiving all the support to which they are entitled…..including choosing not to be a caregiver and getting appropriate home supports in place if that is what a caregiver feels is the best for them—mentally, physically, and/or economically.

3. Better PCAFC Outcomes

Our approach leads to better PCAFC outcomes by helping caregivers:

  • Communicate clearly about the care they provide to their Veteran
  • Gather all the objective evidence of the assistance needed for their Veteran
  • Understand the requirements for PCAFC and what is offered.

Do you know a caregiver who needs support navigating the PCAFC? We’d love to help! Have them fill out our Request for Assistance form.
