The following highlights a few of the families we have had the honor to work with and how their neighbors, local businesses and non-profit organizations stepped up to give back. We’ve also included some testimonials from clients, teaming organizations, and Veterans Affairs Administration and Department of Defense Case Managers regarding the work we do.
It was a hot summer day when we met an Army Reservist and his wife at their small apartment near the Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC). They had relocated from New York to allow the soldier to receive care at the VAMC’s highly acclaimed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. He had been shot in the back of the neck while serving in Iraq and is paralyzed from the chest down.
We met the family of a Marine through a caregiver who was already enrolled in our Wounded Veteran Family Care Program. The family (including 4 children under the age of 11) was facing a dire financial situation. The veteran, like many others, had left active duty service without realizing the toll his combat experiences had taken.
Such a great organization! My Family Support Coordinator has been here for me to pick up pieces that I could not fix; not only financial assistance, but a friend.
My Family Support Coordinator was a huge help to our family. I think I would have crashed without her!
