As we scurried about the holidays looking for the perfect gifts for our loved ones and families, caught in the euphoria of the moment and the anticipation of the smiling faces opening that special present, it was easy to forget the simple things that make life worthwhile: ease of movement throughout ones’ home, helping our children to realize their dreams, our spirits were uplifted with a new hairstyle or make-over.
For this caregiver family, it is the little things that can make life that much easier and more worthwhile.
The caregiver family of 4 includes the veteran, his spouse and caregiver, and their 2 minor daughters. The Veteran served in the Army Reserves and did multiple deployments. While in Afghanistan, the veteran sustained severe injuries, and he now requires daily care from his spouse.
This family requested assistance to make their home, specifically their master bathroom, more accessible and easier for the veteran to navigate, help with a few more months of dance class for their daughters, and perhaps, just maybe, a long-awaited make-over for the caregiver.
QoLF has been able to assist in the identification of qualified, licensed and economical contractors to present bids for the bathroom renovation. Additionally, we partnered with the TD Foundation to cover several more months of dance class for the daughters. However, nothing compares to the following statement from the caregiver:
“Thank you SO much!! Got the card. Can’t wait to go and get make up and feel beautiful again!!!! ”
We are committed to giving back to the courageous caregivers, children and family members of wounded veterans in everything we do to help improve their quality of life … and oftentimes, it is the simple things that make the difference.
Our thanks to the Bob Woodruff Foundation for providing the the funds to work with this caregiving family.
